General Information

The Blunt-tailed Worm Lizard (Dalophia pistillum) is a species of amphisbaenian in the family Amphisbaenidae.

The species is indigenous to southern Africa.

Ecology & Behaviour

This fossorial species has been recorded from several savanna types and is found in Kalahari sand and coastal alluvium.

Distribtion & Habitat

istributed widely in southern Africa, occurring in Angola, Botswana, eastern Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, and extending as far east as mid-Mozambique (Branch 1998, Bates et al. 2014). There are no known records from Malawi. In South Africa it is known only from the Nylstroom-Vaalwater area of Limpopo, the Vryburg area of North West Province, and east of Upington in the Northern Cape (Bates et al. 2010).
